How to Play
Every day DuckDuckWord deals seven letters drawn from a single parent word. Your job: make as many words as you can from those letters – four letters or longer, all the way up to full seven-letter anagrams. Each letter may be used only as often as it appears, so if the day's letters hold one E, your words get one E.
Longer words earn more points, and as your score climbs, ducklings paddle out to join the mama duck on the pond – find enough words and you'll raise the whole flock. Somewhere in every puzzle hides the rare word: an uncommon answer worth a golden duckling of its own. A new puzzle hatches every day at midnight Pacific, free, with no sign-up and nothing to download.
About DuckDuckWord
DuckDuckWord is a free daily word game styled after a naturalist's field guide. There's no account to create, no app to install, and no paywall – it plays in your browser, on phone or desktop. If you enjoy NYT Spelling Bee, Text Twist, Wordscapes, or a daily anagram puzzle, this pond is for you: every letter counts, and every word grows your flock.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is DuckDuckWord free?
Yes – DuckDuckWord is 100% free. No account, no sign-up, no download, no subscription: the word game plays right in your browser.
When does a new puzzle come out?
A new puzzle hatches every day at midnight Pacific time. Everyone gets the same seven letters, so you can compare flocks with friends.
How is it different from NYT Spelling Bee or Text Twist?
Unlike Spelling Bee there is no required center letter, and you can only use each letter as often as it appears – closer to Text Twist or a daily anagram game. DuckDuckWord adds points, a rare word, and a pond of ducklings that grows as you find words.
Can I use a letter twice?
Only if it appears twice among the day's seven letters. Every answer must be spellable from the letters exactly as dealt – that is the rule that separates DuckDuckWord from Spelling Bee-style games.
What is the rare word?
Each day one seldom-found answer is the rare word. Spot it and a golden Mandarin duckling joins your pond, along with the word's dictionary definition.
